Auburn Hills, Mich. - Ryan Hluschak's run through the 2007 NCAA Wrestling Championships ended with an eighth place finish at 157 pounds and the title, "All-American." Hluschak dropped his final two matches by a combined three points including his seventh place match to Josh Zupancic of Stanford, 11-10, in the second tiebreaker on a reversal with just two seconds remaining.
Hluschak went 5-3 during the national championships, including a sudden-victory win over Brian Stith of Arizona State who was seeded second. Hluschak entered the championships unseeded and had never won a match at the NCAA's in his only appearance last season. He became just the second wrestler in Drexel history to earn All-America status.
One of the most talked about of Hluschak's matches was his championship bracket match with top-seed Trent Paulson of Iowa State. With the score tied late in the third period, Hluschak nearly pinned a stunned Paulson. The top seed was able to manuever out of the hold and earn a takedown and near-fall points to advance in front of a crazed audience.
For Drexel it was one of the most successful national championships in program history as three of Drexel's four representatives won a match in the championship bracket. Steve Mytych stunned 12th-seeded Matt Eveleth of Penn in the first round of the 125-pound championship. Chris Cowen also won his first round match over Patrick Walker of Liberty at heavyweight.
